The Grace Project

Revealing Christ in me …

E-mail Print PDF

We must stop all this silly talk (I mean that respectfully) about transactional salvation. A lot of Christians talk about "receiving Christ" inferring (intentionally or unintentionally) that when we are "saved" (and not before) Jesus comes into us.
So the proposition is that He wasn't there (inside us) before? Well that's a very odd idea. I mean in whom did we live and breathe and have our being before Him if it wasn't Him?
Let's be clear on this. Nobody receives Christ into the life - what happens is that Christ who already is and ever shall be their life is revealed to them as being IN them. The Apostle Paul sums it up beautifully for us in his autobiographical commentary in Galatians (1:15-16):
"But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, 16 was pleased to reveal his Son IN me..."
1.Notice that Paul was set apart from the very beginning - as the firebrand Saul he was already the set-apart Paul
2. The Son was revealed in him. The word revealed is well, revealing it literally means; to take off the cover, i.e. disclose: --reveal.
Do you see that Christ was in Paul before Paul (or Saul as he was) was in Christ? The Father revealed the Son to Paul. Paul did not receive Him. When you receive something you acquire something you didn't have before when something is revealed the curtain is pulled back to disclose what was already there. Now that's apocalyptic…!
