Be Still and know ...

All too often we read through Scripture without ever stopping to read in to it.  It is for that reason that some of the modern translations such as The Message are so helpful as they stop us in our tracks with their alternative renderings.
I was thinking about a verse this morning that we'd do well to meditate upon. Ps 46:10 says: "Be STILL, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

Would it surprise you to know that the word "still" means "slacken". That made me think about how we use the word "slacken" .... It's all most a swear word in Christianity, but what if the Lord is saying, "relax, and get of my back, stop giving me such a hard time and just know that I AM God.

Oh if that's too much for you, you can read it like this: "relax and back off, stop giving yourself a hard time, salvation is a work of God for men, not a work of men for God. I've got it covered
