We have more than a heart for God - We have the heart of God!

Psalm 40:8 “Your law is within my heart.” We have more than a heart for God - we have the heart of God!
How interesting. What we could not do whilst we were under the Law we cannot not do now we are under grace.
So many people accuse us of teaching freedom to sin, but of course we do no such thing, in fact we proclaim freedom from sin.  Under the law the best I could do was to “have hidden his (your) word within my heart that I might not sin against you” but now we have come to see that He who knew no sin has given us His heart we cannot sin against Him. Now even the evil that we wish to do we cannot do because you are there with (in) us.

As Jeremiah explained:

31:33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.”

Does not the Apostle Paul confirm that, “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16)?

Does not the Prophet Ezekiel speak for the Lord when he says, “I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh”?

Are you beginning to see from above, from beyond the veil the truth of who you are? You have:

1.The mind of Christ
2.The spirit of Christ
3.The heart of Christ

Beloved we (that is all humanity) have been made new creations yet we have no idea of what or rather who is in us… and that is why we must proclaim the Good News of the Gospel.

Listen to Jeremiah again – “I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
Under the law the extent to which we are His people He is our God, but under grace the extent to which He is God we are His people.

And if you’re wondering who His people are you need look no further than the next statement: 34 “No longer will they teach their neighbour, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

How beautiful…

All right well let’s bring this whole section of Psalm 40 together by reaching across to the New Covenant where we will see the very same text nestling in the book of Hebrews and as you read it remember Beloved we have more than a heart for God - we have the heart of God!

Hebrews 10:1 “For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? 3 But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; 6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. 7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” 8 When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), 9 then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. 10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
